Day 3 -- Jackson, CA

Today was my first day off the bike. I hung out with Ryan Heider, who has an ear infection and will be off for some time, and Justin LaFrenier, a member of the crew. I spent most of my day helping cyclists replenish their bottles, giving out snacks, and setting up crew stops along the route. We arrived into Jackson, CA after a short 50 miles and staged up at a scenic overpass. There, a police escort took us into town. This is where a lot of gold mining took place in the 1800’s. Although we did not visit a mine, we saw the shafts from a distance. Yesterday and today we were lodged in high school gyms—our project manager says most of the trip will be like this. My arm is doing well; I iced it all day and kept it in a sling. I can’t wait to get back on the bike. 6 days and counting.
