Day 4 -- Kirkwood!

Kirkwood is legendary. It is one of the toughest days on the Journey of Hope with 65 miles of uphill across 3 summits (and 20 miles of downhill). There are over 10,000 feet of climbing. Needless to say, the views were incredible. It was a tough day for me as well, but in a different way. Having heard about this day for so long, it was hard to have to sit it out because of an injury. It took some courage to suck up my pride and sit on the side of the road and cheer the other cyclists during such a tough day. I am proud to say that a large majority of the team made it across even if it took up to 11 hours to finish the day. I rode with Andres, the crew chief of the trip, and we had a lot of time to talk about fraternity and philosophize together while we waited for the cyclists to come. Although I have heard this from every Pi Alpha (JOH alumni), I am starting to realize for myself that the Journey of Hope is about much more than cycling. I can’t wait to see what is in stock for the rest of this summer.
