What a rough start to the day! One of our sponsors last night kindly offered to take us out of the city (Lincoln) using bike paths she was familiar with. Unfortunately, she took 10 miles off course and made a 50-mile day into a 65-mile day. For the rest of the day, we had to push it as hard as we could to make it on time for a lunch sponsored by Saturn of Omaha. A few delays and flats caused us to rack for the last 5 miles and we were rather embarrassed to have to roll into lunch on 4 wheels instead of 2, especially since we had ridden most of the day.
That afternoon, we had 2 friendship visits. One was rather difficult as most of the clients were unresponsive and most of us had a hard time getting good conversations started (we were also very tired). To make it worse, we preformed our puppet show to very little positive reception (we also had two new guys trying out roles—it was pitiful). The second visit was a lot of fun. It was a dinner outside with 150 people! An artist preformed some music for us, and a few of us got to go swim with clients in the large pool (with a diving board and floating island) for an hour after dinner.
That night, a few of us went to Hooters for some wings. It was my first, and I have to say, it was rather disappointing. The food wasn’t that good, and neither were the girls. We came back to lodging (a church) early to catch up on sleep. Tomorrow, Iowa! 5 states down. 8 to go.
